Contact me

Do get in touch to chat about sessions in schools, libraries and book festivals. I’m happy to travel throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK - and beyond! As well as everything you find on this website, I’m always up for considering more unusual ideas, and to tailoring my sessions to particular themes and events.

I'm also keen to hear from publishers interested in commissioning me for illustration work or collaborative projects, or interested in my ideas for new books .

You can send me an email here.

School visits

I run sessions in primary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities, and you can book directly with me via email. If you are in Scotland, you may be able to get part-funding for my fee and expenses from the excellent Scottish Book Trust, using their Live Literature scheme.

Scottish Book Trust is a national charity. They believe reading and writing have the power to change lives, and that everyone in Scotland should have access to books. Live Literature provides part-funding for author events in communities all over Scotland; including workshops and residencies in schools, libraries, parks, prisons, community centres, hospitals and many other settings. Over 20,000 people are reached by Live Literature annually, and last year they organised over 70 author visits. They sometimes offer fully funded opportunities for schools to host an author-in-residence through their Live Literature School Residencies programme.

My fees

In line with the Scottish Book Trust benchmark, my standard fee for a school session is £210 per session, plus travel expenses from my home in Edinburgh (and overnight accommodation costs when required). The session fee covers an in-person session or workshop that lasts around an hour to 90 minutes and all the preparation for that session.

I'm happy to carry out a single session on a visit, or two or three sessions during a day, or multiple sessions over more than one day.

I fully support Scottish Book Trust in their championing of the expectation that authors and illustrators should be properly paid for this kind of educational work. However, I do understand that money is tight for many organisations, and I'm open to discussions about what will work for both of us if sources of funding are limited, particularly where multiple sessions are being booked for a visit.
